Guest Review: Our Time by Jessica Wilde

Jocelyn White's only priority in life is her daughter, Olivia. As a single mother, with no family and the only friends she had now hours away, life isn't easy. But the last several years taught her what is truly important and she plans on spending the time she has loving her little girl and keeping her safe and happy. She doesn't plan on her new gorgeous, blue eyed neighbor turning out to be the one thing her and Olivia have been missing.

Andrew Carter has been waiting his whole life for a woman like Jocelyn. After his parents died years before, leaving him to care for his little sister, Madison, he spent years patiently waiting for a family of his own. When Jocelyn and Olivia completely steal his heart, he knows his patience has finally paid off and it's time for his life to finally start.

What he doesn't know is that Jocelyn is keeping something from him. Something she learned a few years ago.

Life is short and sometimes, time isn't on your side.

~Review by Ginelle:

5 Stars

Beautifully told story of survival, determination, hope, and love.

You'll fall in love with Jocelyn, Olivia, and Andrew. The characters seem so real, believable, and likeable.

The story brings to light real life issues and the struggles that they cause.

Life brings things to us that we sometimes just can't handle alone. Sometimes it's better to let people in instead of hiding our hearts away for fear of being hurt. Letting go of the past and focusing on the future, no matter how long that future might be, is always the best thing for healing.

A heartwarming and well told story, I loved it!

***Blurb***
Life can take you by surprise, it can also put you through hell. My fate was never my own to deal with. It was ruined before I even had a chance. It was a rough start and it hasn’t gotten much better. Hiding behind the walls of my room is how I get through each day. Destroyed doesn’t even begin to describe the way my life has been.
Finally, I get away and things are looking up. Of course nothing can go right and some things are just too much to bear. In comes the one thing I can’t have. I’ve read so many books and I know the drill. Rock stars and musicians are not for me. I can’t hide when they are always in the light. Something about him makes me want to step into that light, though. He is constantly bringing me to new levels and places I could never imagine. The secrets I’ve tried to keep to myself are breaking into my new life. Having him around is helping but the outside world ruins us as well. I either have to take the chance and let him in or push him away once and for all. Every time I pull away he is right back here pushing his way back in. He is relentless, he is everything I shouldn’t have. Those secrets I tried to keep hidden begin to surface, bringing havoc to our lives. The world so desperately wants to keep us apart and I might just let it to keep my secrets. Do I sit back and let the world pass me by or do I finally let those wounds heal and have the life he thinks I deserve?

“Fate, don’t over think anything, okay? I have no agenda here. We are friends. I understand that’s what you need and want.” His words are like something from my own head but they are a bit off.
“What I need is you to be my friend, but what I want is something completely different.” I hear his breath catch and I quickly try to repair the damage I’ve done. “I know I’m not the kind of girl you go for, but you’re a rock star, can’t blame a girl, can you?” I say, trying to come off as joking. “What do you want from me, Fate? I need you to lay it out for me because sometimes I’m just not sure with you and I don’t ever want to do anything to make you feel uncomfortable around me.” He is putting me on the spot and the attention begins to get to me. “Dinner,” I say, trying to remind him of his early rush to get something to eat. “You mean a date?” he says with a grin and I know he’s trying to get a read on me. It’s what Cameron does. Since I have been here, I’ve been watching him. Even when I wasn’t talking to him all that time, I couldn’t help it. He just looked so withdrawn, which seemed to be so unlike him. At night in my room, I’d look at pictures of him and his band. He looked so at peace on stage, it’s his happy place. I had to know what someone like that had to prove by being the way he was to me. I couldn’t shake him off. “I don’t know how to date, I’ve never even had a friend. I don’t let people in or let them even touch me. It’s the way I’ve survived.” I can see my words are hurting him but they need to be said. “I can’t make any promises. Each step is a new one and they all have to be small.” He looks hopeful and that brings me the feelings I was wanting. “But I’m willing to try.”
“I’m going to be the good guy. I don’t want you to think my intentions aren’t pure here. So I will be your friend.” His words make my heart sink. I try to keep my face straight and I know I’m failing miserably. “It’s not because I don’t want more. Trust me, that’s the farthest from the truth here, but I won’t rush this and risk screwing it up again.” I could just lean over and touch him but just the thought of contact is driving my heart into overdrive. “You challenge me, McAlister, I like that about you. Don’t back off too much, okay?” “Sometimes you have to push through the pain, right?” His eyes light up and I know he’s trying to figure out if that was just a coincidence. “Only then will you see the truth behind it.” “Fate...I know you don’t enjoy music. How?” he whispers to me. “I printed out all the lyrics. I read them, I didn’t listen. I’m just not there yet. That could never happen. I don’t know if I will get there. So I’m just not sure how this will work but...I’m willing to leave it all behind for a chance.” “Stop, please.” He looks as if he’s in so much pain and I worry that this may be a trigger for him similar to how touching is for me. “I’m sorry, I thought you’d be happy. I never meant to bring up anything to cause you such pain, Cameron.” I walk away and sit on the couch, putting my hands in my lap. Within a few seconds, he’s sitting next to me. I see him go to reach his hand to touch my leg, but he stops himself. “Fate, it isn’t a bad memory. You have no idea what it means that you put yourself through that shit to read my words. Then to hear you say them to me and not just reading them but using them as a direction for your life, well, that just breaks me. I will never push, but I want to comfort you and I just don’t know how.”

The leaves started to create their own spiraling tornado as the wolf came up beside her. It lay in the grass with its head on its front paws. It was the shiniest of black and the grayness of its eyes were of complete contrast with the rest of its coloring. Madison no longer felt terrified as the wolf looked at her with recognition. It was as if she knew this wolf from somewhere, even though she’d never met a wolf in these parts before. “Thank you to the wind I have called. Now it is time for you to be released and return again another day. Blessed be and be on your way.” Madison recited the rite to have the wind stop and return to the normalcy that it once was. Jacob was astonished of what Madison had just done and also for the fact that she didn’t run off screaming because of the big bad wolf coming up to her. His wolf lay beside her and Jacob felt the wolf’s content as he was with his supposed mate. He could hear her heartbeat and the rhythm showed no hints of anxiety from him being so close. Madison said some other words and the flames on the candles went out without her having to do much more. Madison looked over at the wolf lying beside her. He was much larger than she was expecting when he had first come up to her. She was seated in an upright position and even lying down the wolf’s back was level with her head. There had never been any sighting or news talk about this type of creature spotted in the West Lakes area. She knew that a normal girl her age would run away screaming, but she felt more relaxed with him near than she had felt in years. Madison wanted to run her fingers through the thick silkiness of his fur. She slowly lifted her hand so she wouldn’t startle him with any movement that she did. His big gray eyes looked right into hers and she knew he wouldn’t do anything to harm her if she touched him. The fur around his neck felt like finest of cashmere. It was so silky and smooth, she just wanted to keep running her fingers through it all day.
The wolf was in total utter bliss. His mate was showing all the signs of contentment of him being near. Jacob started to feel a little scared at this whole scenario. This wasn’t supposed to be happening, at least not with her. He had to get himself out of this situation before his wolf decided to never leave. “Well, I have to get going,” Madison spoke to the wolf as if he understood what she had said. He looked at her with kindness written in his eyes. She stroked the fur around his neck one last time. She honestly didn’t know if she’d ever see this beautiful creature again, but something deep within her told her this wasn’t their first or last meeting. She stood, as did the wolf. They were almost eye level when standing. ‘Noooooooo,’ Jacob screamed out at his wolf as he knew what he was going to do. The wolf stepped closer to Madison and in one swift movement licked her from the base of her neck, along her cheek, and up to her temple of the side of her head. In human form that would have been considered a full blown out kiss, but in wolf terms it meant he had just marked her as being his own. Every ‘were’ out there would be able to smell his scent on her. Finally, Jacob gained some control and forced his wolf to turn away. He ran back toward the tree line from which he had entered. He turned around once he knew she could no longer see him. She was staring off in the direction he’d gone with her hand in the air like she was saying goodbye.

***Blurb***

Homicide Detective Charity Holiday comes across some interesting characters when she works on a murder case of a stripper. One of those characters happens to be her mate. Malick Pendragon isn’t thrilled when his mate, who happens to be a witch, walks into his life. The timing is completely wrong. What he doesn’t expect is her life to be threatened or that he’d have to save her or risk dying himself.
***Excerpt***
She took a long swig of her beer, sighed heavily and headed to their table. Without permission she sat down and smiled at the men. Others in the room took notice and started to gravitate their direction in slow moves, nothing blatant butdefinitely movements that a cop was trained to detect. Something about the man with striking green eyes and wavy black hair put her at ease despite the feeling of being closed in on, but that didn’t mean her actions weren’t perilous. “Hello, boys.” An awkward silence fell over them, and Charity wished she’d brought backup for the second time in five minutes. She placed her badge on the table but left her gun in the holster. Her actions did little to reduce the tension. “I’m detective Charity Holiday and I have a few questions for you.” The boys offered up varying degrees of laughter and chuckles. Charity wasn’t amused and kept her face stoic. “I don’t think murder is a laughing matter.” The gorgeous man with green eyes grinned and leaned closer to her, his breath tickling her neck and sending shivers down her spine. “It’s not why you’re here that made us laugh, it’s the way you brazenly approached us, witch.” There was menace in his tone, warning in his eyes, and underneath it all was a sexual undertone she found hard to ignore. It was unsettling that he recognized her as a witch. Very few people knew her secret. Inside she was doubting her daring move. Outside she simply shrugged. Never show fear. “No one is above the law.” “The Triad is,” the burly sandy haired man stated, looking down his nose at her. She stared back. “No. One.” Her mind searched for an explanation of who the Triad was. It was familiar but nothing sparked. The sandy haired man growled and Charity leaned back, practically falling into the green eyed devil behind her. “Settle down, Luka,” green eyes warned. A growl rumbled in his chest and she felt it on her back, which sent chills of...desire up her spine. “I’m going to get us another round, Malick.” The Native American man grinned as he stood up. “Thank you, Tobias.” Malick wrapped his arm around Charity’s shoulder possessively. “The cop is under my protection, understood?” All of them nodded in turn. “Are you sure you want to do that, Malick?” Razor asked. “She’s a witch,” he turned his nose up, “I can smell her from here.” Malick stared at Charity for a moment. He lowered his head to her neck and sniffed. Sniffed! It repulsed and aroused her at the same time. “Without a doubt.”

***Blurb***
Laura Monroe moved to Texas for a job advertising the fledgling Cowboy Denim Company owned by brothers Beau and Heath Dawson. But nothing was going like it was supposed to. Laura ran away because she refused to be anyone’s second choice. ***Excerpt***
Beau’s brow crinkled, and he shook his head. “Don’t run her off, Heath.”
“I ain’t gonna do that. She wants me, Beau,” Heath retorted cockily.
“I most certainly do not want you!” Laura shrieked, stomping one small foot in the dirt. “How dare you talk about me like I’m not even here?”
“Princess, you kissed me back. Your little wet, hot tongue tangled with mine. Deny it all you want to.” Heath chuckled.
Laura’s face went into full flame, and she rolled her eyes. “Go to hell.”
“I’m already there, sweetheart.” His eyes darkened and his face went taut.
Beau cleared his throat. “Stop it, Heath. Laura, I apologize for my oaf of a brother.”
“I ain’t sorry.” Heath smirked, and Laura fought the urge to slap the cocky grin off his perfectly formed lips.
“I accept your apology, Beau. Obviously Heath was dropped on his head as a child.”
“Hey!” Heath yelled.
“Look, guys, we’re losing prime light here,” Bob interjected.
Laura flounced away, back to the house. “Do what you want. I’m going to the house.”
She wrapped her arms around herself and nibbled at her bottom lip. Heath’s kiss was unnerving, delicious, and wrong, all at the same time. Why in the hell did he kiss me? Oh my God, it felt so good. She closed her eyes for a fraction of a second, savoring the memory of his mouth on hers. Her foot went into a dip in the path and her eyes jerked wide as she fell forward, her elbows catching the brunt of her weight. A sickening pain ricocheted up from her ankle, and she cried out. Pushing herself back to sitting, she gripped her throbbing leg. Stupid girl! You’ve twisted your ankle thinking about that jerk. Good job!
Within the space of thirty seconds, Heath and Beau were beside her. “You okay, Laura?” Beau asked gently.
She shook her head, not even caring that her mascara was running down her face right along with her tears. “No.”
“Where are you hurt?” Heath asked.
“M-my ankle!” she hiccupped.
“I’ll carry you to the house.” Heath insisted, and before she could tell him no, that she was way too big for all that, she was caught up in his arms.
“Heath, you shouldn’t be carrying her!” Beau argued.
“Shut up. I made her run off being a dick, so I’m carrying her.” Laura could see that she was hurting him. His jaw was tight, and the muscles there played with each step he took.
“Put me down,” she sniffled. “I’m fat.”
“Shut up. You’re not fat. You’re beautiful, and I’m a jerk,” he ground out. Laura gasped.
“You think I’m beautiful?”
“It’s what I said, ain’t it?” Heath growled.
Beau sighed behind them. “Let me carry her. You’re going to mess up your leg too, then I’ll be stuck babying both of you.”
“Shut up, Beau. I’ve got her. You’re not touching her.” Laura shivered at the gruff words. Why is he being so testy about Beau carrying me? What the hell? The progress to the house was slow, but Laura didn’t mind being held in Heath’s arms. He was still damp from being squirted with the hose and the heat radiating off his body was wonderful. Her ankle still throbbed, but it was nothing compared to the throb building in other areas of her body.
“Come on, Heath, pass her over,” Beau argued.
Heath’s grip on her grew tighter. “I said no. She’s mine.”
“Um, I’m not yours,” Laura piped up.
“Keep telling yourself that, princess,” Heath murmured.
Beau sighed. “All right, caveman, but if you want Cowboy Denim to work, you better not run her off.”
“Don’t worry.” Heath insisted. He carried her up the porch, and she pushed at his chest.
“Let me down.”
“What? No, you have to get upstairs,” Heath argued.
“Yeah, and you’re shaking all over, you can’t get me up those stairs. I’m heavy, and I’m hurting you.”
“I can get you up the stairs, dammit.” Heath insisted, pushing through the front door and placing his foot on the bottom step.
“No. I’ll put my arm around your neck, and you can help support me up the stairs if you insist, but you’re not carrying me.” Laura squirmed in his arms and tried to extract herself from his grasp.
“Fine, damn stubborn woman.” Heath slid her down his body, and Laura did not miss one ripple or divot of his muscles. Oh my God! She flushed hot and tried to step back from his beautiful body. She wavered on her good foot, unable to put weight down on the other. “This is all unnecessary. I can make it upstairs.”
“Why, and deny me the pleasure of you blushing hot? It’s okay, Laura, I know I’m sexy. You’re just so cute when you’re all flustered.”
“Oh good God, I can’t take any more of this,” Beau groaned. “While you two flirt and figure out the pecking order, I’m gonna call doc to come look at that ankle. Heath, don’t do too much and mess yourself up.” Laura watched Beau storm off down the hall.
“What’s his problem?”
“Ah, I think he might’ve had the hots for you. I claimed you first.” Heath explained.
“Um, I’m not claimed by anyone.”
“That’s what Kelsey used to say too. You remind me of her. I haven’t figured out if that’s a good thing or not. Regardless, your ankle is hurt, and you need to go upstairs. Now, I guess it’s your choice, do you want my brother, or do you want me?” Heath’s hazel eyes had gone dark, and Laura swallowed nervously, her gaze darting away from him.
“Right now I don’t want either of you.”
“Okay, princess, whatever gets you through the day. Come on, put your arm around me and let’s get you upstairs.” Laura rolled her eyes and put her arm around Heath’s broad shoulder. He took on most of her weight as they slowly traversed the staircase. Both were panting and shaking by the time they made it to the top, and Laura chuckled.
“We’re out of shape.”
“Your shape is just fine, Laura.”
